FAQs

These are common questions that may be directed to you. If you need further clarification, contact your Regional Chapter Director or Order of Omega headquarters.

Where do I get any resource materials I may need?

Contact your Regional Chapter Director or headquarters staff. Also, a great deal of information is available on our website homepage, and under the Chapter Life navigation link.

What does it cost to belong to The Order of Omega?

Each undergraduate student pays a one-time $50.00 initiation fee to headquarters for membership dues which includes their certificate and pin. If a chapter decides to have local dues, it sets the amount. Remember, membership should not be a financial hardship to individuals. All honorary initiates pay a one-time $10.00 membership fee.

What should I do if I suspect hazing in the Chapter?

Immediately after gathering information from the chapter, you must report any such incident to your advisor, who will, in turn, report the incident to the Executive Director. They will determine a course of action with you and your advisor.

What if our chapter is not using the official ritual?

Each chapter president and advisor has a copy of the Ritual. If you need a copy of the Initiation and Ritual, please contact headquarters. The ritual of The Order of Omega must be used. There are few acceptable, local adaptations including room set-up and allocation of the speaking parts. If there are parts of the ritual with which your chapter has an issue, please notify your advisor.

Is there a limit on the maximum number of members?

The number of students initiated each year may not exceed 5% of the total number of enrolled Fraternity & Sorority undergraduates at the beginning of the academic year, or 20 members, whichever number is greater.(See Constitution, Article VI, Section 2.)

How do I submit the names and fees of new initiates?

Starting in 2021, Order of Omega has setup an online new member registration portal with MyHonorSociety (MHS). After a chapter puts out applications and selects new members, the chapter will need to create a new invitation group on MHS to have the new members register themselves. The new members will also have an opportunity to pay their national dues ($50.00 + a $3.00 processing fee) directly to headquarters via MHS.

May a chapter initiate members of local sororities or fraternities?

Student membership is limited to members of Greek-letter social organizations (Article IV, Section 1). Members of Greek-letter social organizations recognized as part of the local Fraternity & Sorority community are eligible, whether or not the chapter is affiliated with a national organization. Your Order of Omega chapter should be representative of your entire Fraternity & Sorority community, across all councils.

May non-Greeks be initiated?

Faculty/Staff members or other honorary members (elected honoris causa by the chapter) do not need to be affiliated with a fraternal organization. All student members must be members of Greek-letter organizations recognized as part of the local Fraternity & Sorority community.

Is there a limit to the number of honorary initiates a chapter may have?

No, there is no limit. A chapter should recognize those persons who have given exemplary service to your Fraternity & Sorority community, choosing at least one honorary member at each initiation. There is a $10.00 fee per honoree. It is recommended the chapter be responsible for this fee.

How does a chapter get a replacement charter or replace a member certificate if it is lost or incorrect?

Contact headquarters by phone or email for replacements or corrections.

How do you get members on the Board of Directors to present a program or be a part of initiation on our campus?

Contact the Executive Director as far in advance as possible to schedule a visit. Six to twelve weeks is not too early. The Executive Director will determine the closest person who meets the program’s needs. In some cases, headquarters will assist with travel expenses, matching your funds.

How long does it take to get certificates and pins made and sent to the chapter?

Allow at least two weeks. If for some unavoidable reason you cannot meet this deadline, call and discuss your needs with the headquarters staff.

Is there an Order of Omega convention?

No; however, Order of Omega holds functions and/or educational sessions at each regional Fraternity & Sorority Life leadership conference (i.e. NGLA, SEIFC, AFLV, etc). Members are encouraged to attend these meetings as part of their college/university delegation.
